Lana is the owner and artist behind Loominary Space, where she creates bespoke, naturally dyed fibre and textile tapestries. Each piece is a labour of love, taking months to craft—especially her large-scale works—so it was essential that this shoot not only captured the final products but also the dedication, meticulous process, and artistic mastery behind them.
Lana’s art is deeply tactile, involving multiple disciplines and materials, so I wanted to ensure we documented every stage of her creative process. From hand-dyeing wool with natural pigments to tearing recycled fabrics, weaving threads, and shaping ceramics, I structured the shoot around the rhythm of her work.
To make the viewer feel immersed in her craft, I focused on:
This approach gave us a diverse, layered collection that tells the story of her artistry in a way that feels authentic, intimate, and visually compelling.
Since Lana’s craft involves multiple intricate processes, shooting in her studio was a natural choice. This allowed for an authentic representation of her daily workflow and kept the imagery grounded in the reality of her art. The studio was filled with the tools, materials, and works-in-progress that make her process unique, and it gave us the perfect backdrop to capture both the structured and organic elements of her work.
By capturing her in her own creative environment, the resulting images feel like a genuine glimpse into the life of an artist, making her work even more engaging for her audience.
Lana’s work is rooted in earthy, soft hues—her natural dyes often result in subtle, pastel-like tones. To maintain visual harmony, I encouraged her to wear neutral, textural fabrics in the same tonal range. We opted for relaxed overalls & bare feet, reinforcing the organic, hands-on nature of her artistry with minimal, natural styling, ensuring that the imagery focused on her process and the tactile beauty of her materials
The shoot was prop-heavy, as we needed to showcase different materials at various stages of production. In preparation, I worked closely with Lana to curate a selection of tools, fabric swatches, and dye baths, ensuring we could visually represent the full life cycle of her work.
I find this process incredibly rewarding because what an artist sees as “just another day” is often fascinating to their audience. By breaking down each step into visually compelling moments, we created imagery that feels both educational and emotionally engaging.
The result is a stunning visual narrative that positions Lana as a true artisan in her field. This collection allows her to showcase her expertise by illustrating the time, effort, and skill behind each piece, giving her audience a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship involved. When people can see the passion and dedication behind a piece, it creates a stronger emotional connection, making her work even more valuable in their eyes. This imagery positions Lana as a true master of her craft, reinforcing the unique, handmade beauty of Loominary Space.
