Taluna Collective is an Australian fashion label dedicated to sustainability, designing and producing its collections exclusively with natural fabrics, all made in Australia. The result is a truly high-quality, luxe collection of women’s clothing that embodies elegance and conscious craftsmanship.
Founder Tamarin is deeply passionate about ensuring her imagery reflects a strong connection to nature while maintaining an earthy, authentic feel. For this shoot, we designed a concept that embraced natural elements while elevating the brand’s aesthetic to align with its premium positioning.
To enhance the storytelling and create versatility within the collection, we decided to include two models. This approach added depth and movement to the images while allowing for dynamic compositions. Instead of leaning into a relaxed boho vibe, I directed the models in poses that felt refined and editorial—styling choices that would not feel out of place in the pages of a high-end fashion magazine.
To complement the silk fabrics in the collection, we wanted to incorporate a water element, ultimately selecting Hinze Dam as our location. The dam’s hauntingly beautiful landscape, with ghostly trees emerging from the water, provided a striking and unique backdrop that added a sense of depth and intrigue to the shoot.
Given the complexity of the shoot, we assembled a larger team, including a videographer, drone pilot, boat captain, hairdresser, makeup artist, two models, and the designer/stylist. As the art director and photographer, I ensured that every team member was clear on their role and our timeline to maximize efficiency—especially since we were working with the narrow golden-hour window.
To ensure everything ran seamlessly, I scouted the location a few days prior, analysing how the sunlight interacted with the landscape at different times. This allowed me to structure the shoot schedule with precision, ensuring we captured each scene at its optimal moment before the sun set.
For this collection, Taluna Collective partnered with a local resin jewellery artist to create a limited-edition bracelet collection, which we incorporated into the styling of each look. Footwear remained within the same earthy colour palette, with flats selected to maintain authenticity and coherence within the story. Hair and makeup were kept soft and natural as well.
To fully integrate the natural surroundings into the imagery, I used elements like tall grasses and winding paths to frame the models, subtly directing the viewer’s eye through the compositions. Playing with depth of field added dimension and interest, creating a variety of perspectives throughout the gallery.
As the shoot progressed into golden hour, we transitioned onto the water, positioning the models in a canoe among the skeletal trees emerging from the dam. This setup allowed us to capture striking, cinematic perspectives from a second boat nearby—perspectives that would have been impossible to achieve from the shore.
The final collection is both moody and playful, with an undeniable sense of luxury and refinement. The editorial-style compositions, combined with the warm, ethereal lighting, create an inviting and immersive narrative—one that makes you feel as though you’re stepping into a tranquil, dreamlike escape. The result is a collection that seamlessly balances raw natural beauty with an elevated fashion sensibility.
